While exploring TikTok, you've likely encountered videos with captivating split-screen effects. This is the duet feature, allowing you to express your reaction to another TikTok video.
1. Understanding TikTok Duet
The duet (or duet singing) feature on TikTok essentially lets you insert another video into your own, adding a creative layer to your content.
If you find an interesting video on TikTok, you can use it to create a reaction, mimicry, or even a duet performance.
Note: the original video poster may not have duet enabled, so you won't be able to duet with their content.
2. Crafting TikTok Duet Videos
Step 1: Scroll through your TikTok home page to find an intriguing video you want to duet with. Alternatively, locate the video you wish to duet with through the creator's profile.
Tap on the Share button located at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Choose Duet from the displayed menu.
Step 3: You'll now be taken to a split-screen video recording screen.
If you want to record your voice, press the Mic button.
Step 4: Choose a different layout from the default split-screen by tapping on Layout.
Layout options include Left/Right (default), Green Screen (similar to blending into the original video), React (smaller original video, highlighted), Top/Bottom.
Additionally, you may want to consider using options like Speed, Filters, Beauty, Timer, and more.
Step 5: Once you've prepared what you want, press the Record Button to start filming your video. The original video will also start playing.
You can also pause and resume recording without losing your progress.
Once the recording is complete, tap the Checkmark to proceed to the next step.
Step 6: The next screen is similar to when you upload videos on TikTok. However, you won't have the option to add music, as the sound will be directly incorporated from the original video.
There are two additional notable features: Volume and Noise Reduction.
Pressing Volume allows you to adjust the balance between the original video's sound and your recorded audio. Aim for a harmonious, easy-to-listen mix.
Meanwhile, the Noise Reduction feature enhances the clarity and crispness of your recorded audio.
Step 7: Press Next to proceed to the preparation screen for posting. Add captions and set the privacy settings for your video.
Hit Post when you're ready.
Congratulations, you've recorded and uploaded an entertaining duet video on TikTok.
