Imagine your friend has sustained an injury, and you're the only help around. Moving them safely is essential. Learn the techniques of support and transport to handle such situations.
Procedures
Identify the appropriate method for the circumstance.
Assisting in Walking
Intended for those with minor injuries or feeling faint, yet capable of walking with assistance.
Guide one arm across your shoulder.
Clasp the wrist of that arm with your hand located beneath.
Encircle your spare arm around their waist.
Proceed slowly towards your destination, allowing the individual to dictate the pace.
Single-Person Transportation
Designed for situations where the individual is too fatigued to walk, and there's no additional help available for carrying.
Kneel facing the individual with your back against their chest.
Grip their hands firmly over your chest.
Rise gradually, using your legs to lift and avoiding strain on your back.
Transport the individual on your back, piggyback style, towards your destination. If the person is small enough, carrying them in front might be easier. Place one arm around their back and the other under their legs. This method is primarily suitable for women and children.
Two-Person Seat Carry
This method is used for a conscious individual who cannot walk and requires assistance from two rescuers.
Each rescuer holds their own right wrist with their left hand.
They then grip the other rescuer's left forearm with their right hand.
The rescuers interlock and squat, creating a platform for the victim to sit on.
The victim holds onto the rescuers' shoulders for stability.
The two rescuers gradually stand and proceed towards the destination.
Double Rescuer Transport
This method involves two rescuers and is suitable for both conscious and unconscious victims.
Two rescuers kneel beside the victim, one on each side.
Each rescuer places one arm under the victim's back and the other under their thighs.
The rescuers grip each other's wrists and shoulders.
They gradually lift the patient from the ground, supporting them together.
They then proceed slowly towards their destination. In all rescues, contact emergency services immediately.
