Procedures
Installation of Android Applications
For more information, visit: https://play.google.com- To download apps to your Android remotely from any computer, simply sign into the Play Store using the same Google account linked to your Android device. If not already signed in, tap the blue Sign In button located at the top-right corner of the page.
Access the APPS menu. This option is located at the top of the screen on Android devices and near the top-left corner of the page when using a computer.
Browse for the desired app. Explore available apps in different ways:
- Click on Categories at the top to view categorized apps (e.g., Art & Design, Communication), then select a category to browse through.
- Choose Top Charts to see popular apps listed.
- Utilize the search bar at the top of the screen to search for specific apps by name or keyword, then hit the magnifying glass icon.
Select an app to view more details. This page provides an overview of the app, its price (if applicable), screenshots, and user ratings.
Review all app details before proceeding with the download. It's essential to thoroughly examine an app's details page before installation. Scroll down to review:
- The app developer's name or company is displayed next to its icon at the top of the page.
- If the app requires payment, the price will be shown on a green button near the top-right corner. For free apps, the button will say INSTALL.
- Swipe through the screenshots (use arrow icons on a computer) to preview the app's appearance. Click on any screenshot for a larger view.
- Click on READ MORE below the description to access the full write-up.
- User ratings are located below the description, along with the number of ratings and reviews received.
- The initial set of reviews is displayed at the page's bottom. To read more reviews, click on READ ALL REVIEWS to expand the full list.
- Similar apps and other offerings by the developer (if available) are listed at the page's bottom. Click on any suggested app to view its details.
Tap INSTALL or the price to acquire the app. This option is located at the top of the app's details page. If you've navigated away, simply tap the back button to return.
- For computer users, a list of linked Android devices will appear. Choose the correct device and click INSTALL to proceed.
- If the app requires specific permissions, you'll be presented with a list. Click or tap ACCEPT to proceed with installation.
Follow the provided instructions for installation. Once installed, the app's icon will be accessible in your Android's app drawer. If using a computer, the download will commence once your Android connects to Wi-Fi.
- For paid apps, you'll be prompted to select a payment method (or add a new one). After payment approval, the app will download to your Android.
- If your Android requires confirmation for the download, enter your passcode (or use a biometric) to proceed.
Updating Android Applications
- Most Android devices are configured for automatic app updates. You can manage this feature for individual apps or all apps collectively through the Play Store.
Tap the ≡ menu. Located at the top-left corner of the screen, this menu will expand when tapped.
Tap My apps & games. Located at the top of the menu, this option displays apps needing updates, each accompanied by an 'UPDATE' button.
- If no 'UPDATE' buttons appear, all your apps are up-to-date.
Tap UPDATE on an app to install the latest update. Alternatively, tap the green UPDATE ALL button at the list's top-right corner to update all at once.
Adjust your automatic app update preferences. Manage auto-updates from the main menu by following these steps:
- Return to the Play Store's main screen using the back button.
- Tap the ≡ menu.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Choose Auto-update apps.
- Select Don't auto-update apps to disable automatic updates or opt for Over Wi-Fi or Over any network to control data usage.
- Tap DONE to save.
Manage automatic updates for specific apps. Regardless of global settings, control updates individually:
- Access My apps & games from the ≡ menu.
- Choose INSTALLED at the screen's top.
- Select an app to open its details.
- Tap the ⁝ menu at the top-right corner.
- Check or uncheck the box to toggle automatic updates.
Buying Movies and TV Shows
https://play.google.com- If you're on a computer and not logged in yet, click the Sign In link at the top-right corner of the page to sign in using your Google account.
Tap MOVIES & TV. Found at the top of the screen on an Android or in the left menu on a computer. This reveals a selection of movies and shows available for purchase.
Search for a movie or show. Utilize the Search bar at the screen's top or browse through categories located just below it.
- Click on the Genres category to explore by genre.
- Check out Top Charts for popular picks, or New Releases for the latest additions.
Click on a movie or show to view its details. The details page presents:
- The purchase and/or rental price of the movie (if applicable). For TV shows with multiple episodes, you'll see the individual episode price and sometimes the option to buy the whole season.
- A summary, ratings, and credits.
- TV shows are organized by season. If there are multiple seasons, click Select a Season near the top-right corner of the episode list to pick a different one.
- For rental movies, the rental duration is shown at the bottom of the page.
Click on the price to purchase or rent the video. This action will display a list of prices and available formats for the selected video.
Choose the desired format by clicking on its price. Format options vary depending on the movie or TV show.
- Some videos offer HD format at a higher price. You'll have the option to select the higher quality format if available.
- If the video is available for rental, you'll see rental details (and a lower price) as an option.
Select a payment method and click Continue. If you haven't set up a payment method with Google Play, you'll see a message indicating 'Payment method needed.'
Add a new payment method. If you haven't already done so, you'll be prompted to enter a payment method now. Payment options vary by region, but typically include debit cards, credit cards, or gift card codes. Follow the on-screen instructions to input your payment details.
Confirm your purchase. Once your payment method is confirmed, the selected movie or TV show will be added to your Google Movies & TV library.
Enjoy your movie or TV show. Your rentals and purchases can be accessed from any device where you sign into Google Play.
- To watch on an Android, open the Play Movies & TV app, typically found in the app drawer. If it's not there, refer to the Installing Android Apps section to learn how to download it.
- For computer users, access your downloaded content by signing into https://play.google.com/movies and selecting the title.
Buying Music
https://play.google.com- You have the option to purchase individual songs or albums for download via the Google Play Store on any device—computer, phone, or tablet. Your songs will be accessible in the Play Music app for Android and the Play Music web player at https://play.google.com/music.
- Additionally, there's a streaming subscription available for purchase. Refer to How to Stream Google Play Music on Android for more details.
Access the MUSIC section. On Android, it's located at the top of the screen; on a computer, find it in the left menu.
Explore music options. Utilize the search bar at the screen's top to find music by artist, song title, or album name. Alternatively, scroll down for recommendations or tap Genres to browse by genre category.
Click on an album or song. Here, you'll discover reviews, a tracklist (for albums), and the purchase price.
- For albums, you'll find a list of songs (with individual prices) on the description page. The full album price is displayed at the page's top.
Tap the price to buy. Payment options will then appear.
Choose a payment method and tap Continue. If you haven't added a payment method on Google Play yet, you'll see a prompt to do so.
Set up a new payment method. If not done previously, you'll be asked to enter a payment method now. The available options vary by region but commonly include debit cards, credit cards, or gift card codes. Follow the on-screen instructions to input your payment details.
Confirm your purchase. Once your payment method is verified, the chosen song or album will be ready for listening on Google Play Music.
Acquiring E-Books and Audiobooks
https://play.google.com- You can access the e-books you purchase either through the Play Books app on Android or by downloading them in EPUB format to your computer.
- Depending on the book, you may transfer the downloaded EPUB file from your computer to an e-reader like Kindle or Nook.
- If you buy an ebook, you can also listen to it in the Play Books app or at https://play.google.com/books on a computer.
Click on the BOOKS tab. It's located at the top of the screen for Android users and within the left menu for computer users.
Explore books. Utilize the search bar to look up books by author, title, or topic. Alternatively, scroll down for recommendations or tap Genres to select a specific genre.
Click on a book for more details. Here, you'll find the book's price, a summary, and any available reviews.
- If the book is offered in another format, you can select SWITCH TO AUDIOBOOK or SWITCH TO EBOOK to explore that format.
Tap the price to purchase. You'll then see your payment options.
Choose a payment method and click Continue. If you haven't set up a payment method with Google Play, you'll see a message indicating 'Payment method needed.'
Add a new payment method if needed. If you haven't already, you'll be asked to provide payment details. Payment options may vary by region but commonly include debit cards, credit cards, or gift card codes. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your payment information.
Confirm your purchase. After confirming your payment method, the book you've purchased will be added to your library.
- To access the book on your Android device, open the Play Books app from the app drawer, navigate to Library at the bottom of the screen, and select the desired book.
- To read or listen to the book on a computer, go to https://play.google.com/books and click on the book's cover. You can download the file by clicking the three-dot ⁝ menu on the book's details page and choosing Download EPUB.
