In this guide to creating the strongest Imperial team in Teamfight Tactics, we'll walk you through the process of assembling your Imperial roster, when to pivot, and how to arrange your heroes for optimal performance.
Imperial Strategy - The Double Damage Formation
Strategic Phases of Building an Imperial Team
1. Buffs for the Imperial Team
- When 2 Imperials are on the board: A random ally gains Double Damage (dealing x2 damage).
- With 4 Imperials: All allies on your board receive the x2 damage buff.
2. Building the Team in Phases
A) Early Game
- Acquiring Imperials is difficult initially with only Darius available, followed by Katarina at level 3. The best approach is to use a different team composition at first and then transition to Imperials when you obtain Draven or Katarina. Similar to most of our Teamfight Tactics builds, we advise using a Noble team composition for the first 4 or 5 levels, then transitioning to Imperials when ready.
- There's no stronger and simpler choice because the Noble buff makes your units exceptionally sturdy, minimizing HP loss in most cases (or even securing victories). At level 5, the basic lineup consists of: Darius, Garen, Lucian, Fiora, and Tristana (in that crucial order). Darius and Garen synergize with the Knight class, blocking 20 damage from each basic attack. Lucian and Fiora grant you the Noble buff, and finally, Tristana is only used to acquire the 2 Gunslinger buff. It's noteworthy that all these units are Tier 1 except for Lucian, who is Tier 2, meaning you can upgrade them to rank 2 immediately.
B) Mid Game
- Imperials become viable in the mid-game when you acquire Katarina and Draven, especially in Draven (chain) compositions. When you reach level 5 or higher, with two Imperials on your board, it's time to transition from Nobles. Typically, your Katarina won't have a chance to use her ultimate ability, so it's preferable to use Darius + Draven instead of Darius + Katarina for the (2) Imperial synergy.
- The core of building an Imperial team in the mid-game consists of: Darius, Draven, Aatrox, Gangplank, and Fiora. As you level up, you can add Pyke and Graves for the (3) Pirate and (2) Gunslinger bonuses.
- If you fail to acquire Draven, then utilize: Darius, Katarina, Pyke, Graves, Gangplank, and two more Assassins.
C) End Game
Now, you're in the End Game. This is when you can achieve (4) Imperial and the lineup becomes perfectly strong. The core of this build comprises: Darius, Katarina, Draven, Swain, Yasuo, and Aatrox. If you can't get Yasuo, then construct four Imperials with two other Shapeshifters (preferably Nidalee, Shyvana, and Gnar). Finally, you can add Poppy at level 9 to obtain (3) Yordle and (2) Knight buffs. This lineup is truly astonishing because you'll have a lot of damage coming from Gnar once he transforms. Additionally, Yordles have dodging capabilities, and this lineup has plenty of tankiness.
We hope our guide to building the strongest Imperial team in Teamfight Tactics proves truly beneficial. Don't forget to share it with your friends so they can also adopt effective strategies. Additionally, you can combine the Imperial lineup with the Noble team composition in Teamfight Tactics, offering both high damage output and resilience. It's an intriguing mix.
