The Southern MC, along with her companion, was pleasantly surprised by the luxurious lifestyle in the wealthy nation of Brunei.
MC Anh Thơ astounded by her visit to Brunei, the 'kingdom of golden extravagance'.
MC Anh Thơ and her companion, global sea beauty runner-up 2015 Kim Nguyên, embarked on a 4-day, 3-night expedition to the serene and picturesque land of Brunei. Ranked among the top 5 wealthiest nations globally, this country mesmerized the two beauties with its hospitable people and opulent architectural marvels. With a population of over 400,000 and covering an area of nearly 6,000 km², Brunei retains the untamed beauty of nature, offering pristine air and a sense of peace and prosperity that can only be truly appreciated by experiencing it firsthand.

The duo boarded a Royal Brunei Airlines flight from Ho Chi Minh City, with a flight time of nearly two hours. On the first day, due to a delayed flight, Anh Thơ and Kim Nguyên took the opportunity to rest, dine, and prepare themselves for the days of exploration ahead. On the second day, the group set off for Temburong by high-speed boat (45 minutes), followed by a 15-minute drive to reach the Temburong National Park.
The pair had the chance to navigate the traditional longboats of Brunei, venturing through dense forests, breathing in the fresh air deeply. From this vantage point, visitors can observe a vast ecosystem from above, providing an awe-inspiring experience. They can also partake in exhilarating activities such as waterfall bathing and kayaking.
On the third day, the group ventured to explore the extravagant architectural wonders of this kingdom. Gold is perhaps the first thing that comes to mind when setting foot in Brunei—gold is everywhere, from the mosques to the royal museums and palaces. An estimated 5.5 tons of gold adorn the 29 domes of the Jame Assr Hassanil Bolikah Mosque, symbolizing the prosperity under the reign of the current monarch, the 29th ruler of Brunei. The golden domes are an emblem of opulence.

Next stop is the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, adorned with gold and diamonds, ranking among the most luxurious in the world with a total cost of 1.4 billion USD, boasting 1,788 rooms, a banquet hall accommodating 5,000 people, and a mosque accommodating 1,500 people. Following that is the Regalia Museum featuring numerous gold-plated artifacts and royal paraphernalia such as royal palanquins, royal chariots, and royal insignias.
In the afternoon, the group visited the 600-year-old water village Kampong Ayer with a population of over 290,000 people. Despite its ancient origins, the village boasts modern and comfortable living spaces. In the past, the people of Brunei made a living by fishing, but with the discovery of oil, they gradually transitioned to shore-based occupations. They travel by canoe on the river (with about 500 canoes) and commute by personal cars parked on the shore.
Interesting Facts about Brunei:
On the very first day upon arrival, MC Anh Thơ was truly astonished to learn about the value of a dollar. For just one dollar, citizens are provided with housing, healthcare, and education for less than two dollars. Additionally, the royal family even sponsors medical treatments abroad and overseas education for citizens.
When visiting Brunei, you'll be surprised that to see motorcycles, you have to order pizza—such vehicles are not common. Furthermore, there are only about 100 taxis available (requiring one-hour advance booking), or buses exclusively for tourists or foreign workers.
The capital of Brunei boasts only one night market, Gadong Night Market, a delightful dining spot offering a variety of dishes such as grilled fish, desserts, barbecue, and fruits. Being a Muslim country, the sale of beer and alcohol is prohibited in Brunei. Shops open after 10 pm and close by 10 pm.

One cannot overlook the Sultan of Brunei, the head of state wielding absolute power. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has ruled Brunei for 50 years since 1967. He holds the positions of Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Finance. As one of the wealthiest individuals globally, the Sultan owns the world's largest car collection with 600 luxury cars, notably including 165 custom-made Rolls Royce luxury cars; a Boeing 747 jet refurbished with gold and Lalique crystal; an Airbus 340, 6 private jets, and 2 helicopters.
He once piloted his own Boeing 747 to Washington D.C. to discuss oil cooperation and climate change with President Obama. With his adept governance, the Sultan of Brunei also elevated Royal Brunei Airlines to the top 10 in the world, renowned for its attentive service, comfort, and safety.
On the final day of the journey, the group rested at Brunei's most renowned hotel – The Empire Hotel Country Club – a 6-star luxury establishment. Formerly the royal residence of Brunei, the entire hotel exudes opulence reminiscent of a grand palace, with gold adorning every corner, complemented by the friendly hospitality of the staff.
