On July 15, McDonald’s announced Mr. Nguyen Bao Hoang, a Vietnamese entrepreneur and founder of Good Day Hospitality, as the franchisee to develop the brand in Vietnam.
The first McDonald’s restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to open its doors in early 2014. The menu will feature popular favorites from the brand, including the iconic Big Mac, Cheeseburger, and of course, the beloved French Fries.

Don Thompson, Chairman and CEO of McDonald’s, shared, “McDonald’s is honored to expand its presence to Vietnam. This marks the 38th country in the Asia region where McDonald’s has a presence. McDonald’s will bring its commitment to food quality, service excellence, and convenience to Vietnam.
According to Dave Hoffmann, President of McDonald’s in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa region, collaborating with Nguyen Bao Hoang as the franchisee is the result of a rigorous, fair, and transparent selection process that began many years ago. He has a long-standing passion for the brand, starting from his college days when he worked part-time at a McDonald’s in the United States.
As for Nguyen Bao Hoang, he shared, “For many years, I have been in constant contact with McDonald’s headquarters in the United States, discussing with them the opportunities in the Vietnamese market”.
Vietnam is among the 65 global markets where McDonald’s implements the Development Licensing method. This is a franchise method that McDonald’s has employed for over 30 years worldwide to grow its brand.
