5 years ago, when I brought my group of friends back to visit my hometown, I didn't expect to leave much of an impression on them, coming from various provinces with famous places like Vung Tau, Da Lat... Yet, in less than a year, they... wanted to return!
'Mekong Delta Bun Nuoc Leo Route'

I asked my friends what's enjoyable about my hometown, and they said: 'There's fresh air, peaceful life, and... many delicious yet affordable dishes!'
Tra Vinh, my hometown, has never had a reputation on the tourist map of Vietnam. But I invite you to visit this peaceful and hospitable land, with the poetic city of Tra Vinh nestled amidst ancient forests, creating a rare urban area that strolls at noon without fear of the sun!

Don't forget to visit Bà Om Pond - a famous scenic spot in Tra Vinh. This is the 'green lung' that nature generously bestows upon my homeland, bringing pride and reverence to the people of Tra Vinh.
The provincial government is deeply committed to environmental conservation and green living. Recently, they have transformed the provincial stadium into a central park for residents to exercise, engage in cultural activities, have fun, and relax. Do you feel the freshness yet?

Regarding tranquility, let me share a recent article highlighting the 'gentle' nature of the people in Tra Vinh when it comes to obeying traffic laws. You seldom witness instances of running red lights in my hometown, and stopping at red lights 'alone' or in the rain is considered 'just a normal thing' here!
Tra Vinh cuisine is a harmonious blend of three culinary cultures: Kinh, Khmer, and Chinese. My hometown boasts many delicious dishes, some even renowned like Ben Co noodles, Tra Cuon sticky rice cakes... But what I want to highlight is the dish called 'bun nuoc leo' made with Bo Hoc fish sauce by the Khmer people.
Different from Bun Nuoc Leo in Soc Trang or Bac Lieu with various meats, fish, shrimp..., Tra Vinh's Bun Nuoc Leo is simple with just noodles and vegetables yet very flavorful and enticing. Not only delicious but also affordable. It's priced at only about 10,000 dong per bowl, sometimes even 8,000 dong!

And here's my experience dubbed the 'Mekong Delta waterway route': from Tra Vinh city, I journeyed to Cau Quan town in Tieu Can district, then crossed the Dai Ngai - Cu Lao Dung ferry, the final large ferry connecting the two banks of the Tien and Hau rivers in the Mekong Delta.
Crossing the ferry, following the Southern Hau River route to Bac Lieu, you pass through Tran De fishing village, Vinh Chau town with vast fields of purple onions. In Vinh Chau, you can savor the first bowl of Bun Nuoc Leo, then head to the renowned Bac Lieu Bun Nuoc Leo bowl on Ly Tu Trong street. Following National Highway 1A, you can enjoy Bun Nuoc Leo right in the center of Soc Trang city.
The journey has boosted my confidence in the 'fish sauce' flavor of my homeland!
Since the Co Chien Bridge was built, tourism in Tra Vinh has become bustling! Several spacious garden households around the bridge area have eagerly turned into homestays! Actually, there are no signs or advertisements, just whispers... Dozens of people come, catch grilled snakehead fish, prepare shredded chicken..., of course, the hosts join in.
The drink from the garden tree with coconut as the main ingredient, especially with... rainwater containing 'four-breasted frog' and sipping 'three-king' made from glutinous rice throughout the house while drifting along the melodies of the sad Southern tunes of Co Chien River! When tired, just lie back on the wooden bed, rocking chair, or hammock. Drift into sleep without anyone rushing or urging you, it feels like... home.
