The History of Dalat Station
Dalat Station stands as the historic cogwheel railway station of Dalat city. It was initiated by the French in 1932. By 1938, the station commenced operations with the Phan Rang – Dalat railway line. This railway line stretches over 80 km with cogwheel tracks to ascend mountain slopes. Even after the French withdrawal from Vietnam, the railway continued its operation until 1972 when it ceased due to the war.
Presently, Dalat Station serves as a bustling tourist destination, ideal for photography. Additionally, it caters to the travel needs to Linh Phuoc Pagoda via the Dalat Station – Trai Mat route, spanning 7km.
What does Dalat Station offer?
Resembling the Lang Biang Mountain, with dimensions approximately 66m in length, 11.4m in width, and 11m in height, Dalat Station resembles a southern French station, yet it encapsulates its unique essence, perceivable only by those who visit.

Unique architecture of Dalat Station
Located adjacent to Yersin High School in Dalat, Lam Dong, Dalat Station creates a harmonious landscape between nature and the unified ensemble of buildings. It adopts a modern Western architectural style, prominently featuring a front facade with three stylized roof peaks representing the three highest peaks of Lang Biang and the unique design of the Central Highlands communal house roof. A clock is placed at the central peak, with colored glass window panels and gentle curved eaves designs beneath.
With the layout organized according to symmetrical axes, the grandeur of this architectural marvel is evident through reinforced concrete roof trusses reaching heights of up to 6 meters. Ancient architectures are preserved almost intact, with glass-paneled windows creating colored lighting effects throughout the interior of the station, especially with the Vietnamese script inscriptions 'Flower itinerary afar', 'Train schedule', and more.

Ancient designs are still preserved until today
The railway line of Da Lat Station spans 84km. It passes through 5 tunnels with relatively steep slopes, requiring the use of cogwheel tracks and locomotives. The total length requiring cogwheel design is 16km.
The cog railway line from Da Lat Station has gradually become a unique architectural and design feature of our country and the world. There are 3 train teams operating daily along 3 routes: Thap Cham – Da Lat – Nha Trang, Thap Cham – Da Lat, Saigon- Thap Cham – Da Lat. Da Lat Station, alongside Hai Phong Station, is one of the oldest surviving stations in our country.
However, nowadays, the station no longer serves as a transportation hub like before but only caters to tourism. Da Lat Station has become a popular tourist destination and photography spot chosen by many travelers. With a 7km stretch, on the vintage train, traveling relatively slowly with loud noises, it remains a service that tourists find fascinating to experience at least once.
