If you own a computer with an older generation Atom chip, your device won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Creators Updates with many outstanding features and advantages, despite the upgrade to Windows 10 Creators being carried out a few months ago.
Microsoft ceases support for updating Windows 10 on older generation Atom computers
Microsoft states that this is because 'these systems are no longer supported by Intel', therefore they will not receive the latest Redmond operating system versions. However, the company has decided to extend support for these computers until 2023.
Computers that will cease to receive Windows 10 update support include Atom Z2760, Z2580, Z2560, and Z2520 Clover Trail. According to ZDNet, machines like the HP Envy X2, announced in 2012 and released to market in 2013 and 2014, were eligible for free Windows 10 upgrades and the Anniversary Update but are not supported for the Creators Update anymore.
'Devices using Intel Clover Trail Atom processors ... require additional hardware support to provide the best experience when updating to the latest Windows 10 feature update, the Windows 10 Creators Update,' Microsoft stated. 'However, these systems are no longer supported by Intel ... and do not support the necessary drivers, potentially not supported for the Windows 10 Creators Update.'
The result is that these computers are 'stuck' on the Anniversary Update. The problem is that support for the Anniversary Update is expected to end in 2018.

With Microsoft discontinuing Windows 10 update support for older generation Atom computers, users with these older machines won't be upgraded to Windows 10 and will continue to use Windows 8.1, which will be supported until 2023, marking the end of Windows 8.1. Therefore, Microsoft will extend support for the Anniversary Update until January 2023 when Windows 8 support ends.
