The option to disable VBScript was initially announced in the IE update in April this year but was previewed in the Windows Insider Preview release, build 16237.
Microsoft deactivates VBScript on IE 11 for websites in Internet Zone and Restricted Sites
Microsoft's early-year announcement reveals:
'VBScript is no longer supported on Internet Explorer 11 and is not integrated into websites displayed in IE 11 mode. However, due to backward compatibility, VBScript is still allowed on websites displayed in legacy document mode. Document mode is deprecated on Windows 10 and not supported on Microsoft Edge browser.'
For users of older Windows versions, these changes will be experienced with the release of future Internet Explorer 11 security updates. Users can use Registry, Group Policy, or Microsoft Easy to configure this behavior for each Security Zone.
After disabling VBScript on the browser through the Registry Key, IE11 will stop running VBScript from websites using legacy document mode and websites in the Restricted Sites Zone. To restore VBScript on Security Zone, simply change the Registry subkey value to 0 and restart the browser.
When configuring VBScript disabling through Group Policy, ensure proper application by linking GPO with the correct organizational unit.
For a more secure and enhanced web browsing experience, Microsoft disables VBScript on IE 11 for websites in the Internet Zone and Restricted Sites. Currently, security issues and infection risks from the Internet are substantial.
