In a recent analysis, Google Chrome remains the leading web browser and remains unbeatable, commanding a 67.14% market share in the desktop browser market. According to StatCounter, Microsoft Edge has surpassed Firefox, pushing Mozilla's product to the fourth position with a market share of 7.95%.
Meanwhile, Safari holds the second position with a 10.11% market share, while Edge has secured the third position with an 8.03% market share, and Microsoft's web browser has been gaining new users steadily every month.
It seems like Microsoft Edge has reached a record high in terms of user numbers and it appears to be the second most popular browser on Windows.
The growth of Microsoft Edge is clearly illustrated through charts created based on data provided by StatCounter. New computer users of Microsoft Edge may come from Mozilla's Firefox and Google's Chrome. Of course, the increase in Edge users is also related to some users from Internet Explorer, a browser that is no longer supported.
Edge has experienced steady growth since last year and it is poised to surpass Apple's macOS exclusive web browser in 2021.
Clearly, Microsoft is performing better, but it seems people still need more time to move away from the defunct Internet Explorer. According to reports, Internet Explorer holds a 1.7% market share and is gradually losing users.
It's also worth noting that Firefox still has a larger overall market share than Edge when considering the number of users on mobile phones and tablets, but that number is also decreasing. Download FireFox here.
