HomeGroup is a feature introduced in older versions of Windows and is currently available on all supported versions, allowing users to quickly share files and printers between computers on the same network. Microsoft acknowledges that while HomeGroup is useful, it was developed before cloud services became prevalent, and users now have many other alternatives to HomeGroup. Thus, the company has made the difficult decision that Microsoft removes Windows HomeGroup from Windows 10 Redstone 4.

The company also states: “Easy connectivity and sharing are vital in today's digital age, especially as users can seamlessly connect between modern computers and cloud services. Whether it's connecting personal computers and printers on the same network through the Share feature on Windows or using OneDrive to share family vacation photo albums, Windows 10 can connect to multiple devices and share content in an organized and straightforward manner”.

User profiles you've configured to share will continue to function, however, the HomeGroup service will be discontinued, and Microsoft advises users to transition to using OneDrive for easier file storage. The Share function for folders and printers to check out available devices and Microsoft accounts to access more devices.
According to Microsoft, HomeGroup will continue to operate on systems supported by Creators Update, but upcoming Windows 10 versions will no longer feature HomeGroup functionality.

“One cannot deny that HomeGroup was an extremely useful feature before the era of cloud services, however, nowadays this functionality is integrated right into Windows 10 apps,” explained Microsoft.
