Recall last month, the advertising platform manufacturer disclosed that the update process for Win 10 April 2018 (v1803) would be faster than previous updates.
Many speculations suggest that the software giant may be improving update speed to push updates to users who do not opt for updating to the new version immediately.
Microsoft utilizes AI to enhance the speed and smoothness of Windows 10 updates
However, Microsoft stated that the faster update speed of Windows 10 v1803 is a result of using an AI algorithm that was previously undisclosed, enabling the AI algorithm to detect which devices are ready to update.
In a blog post, Microsoft announced that the AI/machine learning approach was initiated in a pilot program during the company's release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
During the limited trial on the Fall Creators update, the update experience on AI-identified devices was also more promising, with fewer restores, uninstallations, reliability issues, and negative user feedback.
To deploy the April 2018 update, the software giant expanded its AI initiative by developing AI machine learning models to 'guide' the system on how to identify the best target devices.
When the AI model or telemetry data detects that an update may cause issues for individual devices, it will prevent users from updating until Microsoft identifies the cause and allows updating when the issue is resolved.
The software giant announced that the April 2018 update will be the fastest version of Windows 10 yet, aiming to install and run on over 250 million devices. The company's total Windows 10 versions currently reach 700 million active devices per month.
In addition to bringing a major enhancement to its Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft also updates new features for the Edge browser. Following in Google's footsteps, after Chrome, Microsoft Edge blocks auto-playing videos to prevent annoying auto-played videos for users.
