In a blog post, the company highlighted the notable limitations of formulas in the spreadsheet editor, such as each formula outputting data for just one cell in the spreadsheet. To overcome this, Microsoft introduces and enhances Dynamic Arrays in Excel, enabling formulas to return multiple values on the spreadsheet in list form.
In addition to Dynamic Arrays, Microsoft introduces several new formulas that yield various results, including SORT, SORTBY, UNIQUE, FILTER, SEQUENCE, and RANDARRAY. For example, the UNIQUE formula empowers users to select a list of cells with different values, filter out duplicate values, and return a list of all unique values in the selected cells, replacing the previous method of Removing Duplicate Data in Excel.
Dynamic Arrays are now available for all Office Insider users on Windows and those subscribed to the Fast ring on macOS. Microsoft plans to roll out this feature for users on all available Office platforms, including Office 2019 and versions dating back to 2016.
