While not a widespread problem, it affects the Office suite on the second screen, a setup intended to boost productivity. Swift resolution of this issue is crucial.
Recently, Microsoft clarified that the entire issue has been resolved, and all Windows 10 users need to do is install the latest cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004.

Microsoft stated: 'If you own a device running Windows 10 2004 with a built-in screen (such as a laptop or tablet) and a second screen connected to the main screen, you will see both screens flicker and the second screen turn black if you try to draw with an Office app like Word. This may also happen with some other drawing-capable apps, such as Whiteboard. If you check Device Manager, your graphics driver will have a warning icon next to it (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark).'.
The update that users need to install is KB4577063, which Microsoft released as a Preview version on October 1st.
On the flip side, it's crucial to know that installing this cumulative update may lead to various issues, one of which is the certificate bug acknowledged by Microsoft. The only resolution is reverting to the previous version of Windows 10 you were using.
In other words, Microsoft advises users who have experienced system certificate loss after OS installation, including this cumulative update, to downgrade the OS and await a bug-fixing release.
Microsoft explained, 'User and system certificates may be lost when updating devices from Windows 10 1809 onwards to a newer version. Devices are only affected if they have installed any latest cumulative update (LCU) released on or after September 16, 2020, and then updated to a newer version of Windows 10 from media or an installation source that does not integrate the LCU update released on October 13, 2020, or later. This mainly occurs when devices are updated using outdated packages or media through update management tools like Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager. This can also happen when using outdated physical media or ISO files without integrating the latest updates.'
Microsoft plans to release new cumulative updates with more bug fixes next week as part of the Patch Tuesday update cycle for November 2020. However, this time the focus will be on addressing security issues in Windows 10.
All versions of Windows are receiving enhancements, including the May 2020 Update. The latest version of Windows 10 at this time is the October 2020 Update, gradually rolling out to systems worldwide.
