In an official blog post, Microsoft revealed that Photosynth was created in 2008 and ceased operation in 2017.
Recently, specifically on December 20th, Microsoft unveiled that PhotoSynth has been resurrected, but as a feature integrated into the Microsoft Pix app for iOS. By panning and capturing photos from side to side, up and down, and vice versa, users can create panoramic images.
The company stated that the Photosynth version in Pix is similar to the original Photosynth version, but with faster and smoother photo capturing capabilities, along with auto-enhancement to improve white balance and sharpen photos.
Microsoft also introduces a new feature to Pix called Comix, to identify the most interesting scenes in a video clip and create a comic strip. Microsoft mentioned that Comix utilizes deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) features on the device to select 3 high-quality frames. Users can add and edit speech bubbles.
Pix is still only available for iOS devices. The latest version of Microsoft Pix 1.3.2 will be released this week, with the aforementioned new features added.
