In November, Microsoft acknowledged a bug causing Win 10 to forget passwords in Chrome, Edge, OneDrive, and several other apps. The issue seems sporadic and varies across different apps, making troubleshooting challenging.
Fundamentally, this Windows 10 issue prevents software from remembering user login credentials. In other words, affected users must input their username and password each time they log in.
One user stated: 'After upgrading to Windows 10 version 2004, Windows no longer remembers my login/password information across all system-wide apps (including browsers) and continuously prompts me to log in again.'
Reports of the problem first surfaced in April, and it will finally be addressed in the next cumulative update, expected to be released in February or March next year.
Users report that passwords are not being saved for apps such as OneDrive, Outlook, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft accounts, Google accounts, Chrome, Adobe CC... Subsequently, Microsoft provided a temporary fix solution: 'The issue occurs when certain Windows 10 Task Scheduler tasks are configured in a specific way. Until an official fix is available, the workaround is to disable these tasks via Task Scheduler.'
Currently, the company has found a comprehensive solution to address the issue preventing apps from saving user login information, and the fix is being rolled out to testers in the Windows Insider program.
Eric Lawrence, Microsoft Edge Program Manager, wrote: 'This issue in Windows only affects a relatively small number of users with S4U tasks and has now been resolved in the latest Windows 10 Insider channel.'
So, the Windows 10 glitch preventing apps from remembering login information will be fixed in the next optional update before reaching all devices in the Patch Tuesday update.
