Returning to February of this year, Microsoft announced upcoming updates for two Office versions: LTSC and Office 2021. Essentially, both are similar, with the distinction that Office LTSC is intended for business customers, while Office 2021 is for regular users. Additionally, Microsoft provides 5 years of support for both versions through the purchase of a 'perpetual' license. However, this also means users won't receive any new features or updates until the next 'perpetual' license is released.

The company emphasizes that their subscription-based Microsoft 365 system will be their top priority in the future. They understand that, in some cases, businesses may not be able to transition to the cloud or connect to certain internet-dependent services. Therefore, LTSC releases hold more value for them. While the Office LTSC version includes performance enhancements and improved accessibility, Microsoft notes that users won't be able to leverage security features, AI automation, and real-time collaboration. The company states they will 'invest' to make it easier for LTSC customers to transition to Microsoft 365 in the future.
Highlighted features of Office LTSC include support for OpenDocument format (ODF 1.3), additional JavaScript Office Add-ins APIs, and the introduction of new languages. Microsoft also lists the following additions for both Office LTSC and Office 2021: Dynamic Arrays and new XLOOKUP function in Excel, Line Focus in Word, and the ability to record presentations with narration in PowerPoint. Furthermore, all Office applications will include dark mode support.
Another significant change from previous releases is that Office LTSC comes with Teams as part of the pre-installed features, replacing Skype for Business. Unlike other Office applications, Teams will continue to receive continuous updates over time, but you only have access to the free version of Teams, as the premium version requires a separate license.

Office 2021 is the version for regular users and will replace Office 2019 on 5/10/2021. It will be available on both Windows and macOS, similar to Office LTSC. Currently, the company has not disclosed the detailed pricing for Office 2021 and Office 2021 for Mac OS.
