Microsoft sets forth stringent requirements for laptops launching later this year (source: NotebookCheck)Insider information reveals that Microsoft has set strict requirements for webcams and real-time clock (RTC) systems for Windows 11 laptops set to launch later this year. Standards will be divided into low-end, mainstream, and high-end. However, most devices will be equipped with 1080p webcams.
Currently, only a few computer models support 1080p webcams such as: Microsoft Surface series, DIY Framework, Apple MacBook Pro 14, MacBook Pro 16. Almost all other laptop models on the market have low-resolution webcams, poor color brightness, high noise, and extremely poor light performance.

Now, Microsoft continues to emphasize the technical specifications of webcams and real-time clock (RTC) systems for its upcoming laptops set to launch later this year.
According to internal information shared between Microsoft and OEMs, there will be separate standards for entry-level, mainstream, and high-end laptops. However, details regarding the pricing for these laptop types have not yet been disclosed.
For entry-level laptops, Microsoft will equip webcams with a wide range > 33 dB. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at 20 lux with color temperature of 2,700 K. Additionally, the webcam supports resolutions of 640 x 360 and 1,280 x 720 recording at 15 frames per second.
Webcams for mainstream laptops will have a wide range > 36 dB and high-end laptops > 40 dB. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for both lines remains at 20 lux with color temperature similar to entry-level laptops, 2,700 K.
