Some speculated three years ago that Office 2019 would be the final perpetual license version as Microsoft aimed to encourage users to adopt Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) - their subscription-based licensing model. Although Microsoft has not confirmed this, they consistently mention market evaluation. If businesses still resist transitioning to Microsoft 365, the Redmond company will continue releasing new Office editions.
Everything the company has said is that this new version will be available for both Windows and Mac, but they haven't revealed the product's name. Based on what we've seen, it might be called Office 2022.
Microsoft has also mentioned the upcoming versions of server products like Exchange Server. The company recommends that users of Exchange Server 2013 or 2016 start planning an upgrade to Exchange Server 2019, promising it to be the last major upgrade they'll need to make. The next version will support in-place upgrades from Exchange Server 2019 for at least 2 years.
