This means that now, leading Office apps including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote will run faster and take full advantage of performance enhancements on the new Macs.
These updates started rolling out on December 15. Office users with automatic updates enabled will receive the new version right away, and others can update through the Mac App Store or Microsoft AutoUpdate (depending on whether you downloaded Office through the App Store or directly from Microsoft).
The Office Start experience is also enhanced with the use of Fluent Design language. Microsoft states that this design language is tailored to match the new interface of macOS Big Sur. Additionally, Outlook for Mac is now getting support for iCloud accounts, a feature previously absent in Apple's email app. iCloud account support allows you to organize emails, contacts, and personal and work calendars together in one app for easy access to what matters. This feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
According to Microsoft, all the new improvements in Office apps for Mac aim to help users accomplish tasks in simpler and more intuitive ways.
Tell Me is a quick search box that swiftly takes you to the Office tools you need or the actions you want to perform by simply entering the content you're looking for in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote for Mac. Microsoft's search tool in the new Outlook for Mac allows you to input queries or questions in your everyday language to find emails, events, and files without needing complex syntax.
Another new feature for Mac is Data from Picture. With Data from Picture, you can capture data images with your phone and then edit them in Excel spreadsheets.
Finally, Mac users also get new collaboration capabilities, including shared calendars and a new review experience for Word on Mac. Additionally, new tools like the spelling checker toolbar with voice commands to create content through speech are coming to Word and Outlook for Mac.
