According to Dona Sarkar, the new leader of the Windows Insider Program, Microsoft is rolling out the preview build for Windows 10 Redstone 4. Users enrolled in the Skip Ahead channel will receive this build soon, possibly within the next week. Insider users subscribed to the Fast ring or Slow ring channels will continue to receive the Fall Creators Update build.
Microsoft Releases Preview Build for Windows 10 Redstone 4
Changes in Windows 10 Redstone 4 Build
Windows 10 Redstone 4 is still in the early stages of testing, so the first Redstone 4 build is likely to have no significant changes or new features compared to Windows 10 Redstone 3. The initial build simply lays the groundwork for future features. If you're looking for information on this version, follow our exploration of Windows 10 Redstone 3 here.
“Insiders in the Fast ring have received new builds from this branch in recent weeks. The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is currently in the development phase, and our main task now is to develop a more stable update to release globally. Consequently, we plan to release these builds to Insider users faster on both the Fast ring and Slow ring channels because these builds include most bug fixes,” explained Dona Sarkar.
“For Insiders in Skip Ahead, we will continue to release builds from the RS_PRERELEASE branch, but the release pace won't be similar to the RS3_RELEASE builds. As we've just started developing RS4, Insider users should not expect new features or significant changes in this build, except for a substantial increase in the build number, similar to what we did in RS3.”
The next version of Windows 10, following the Fall Creators Update, is expected to be released in spring 2018. Microsoft plans to roll out the final stable version in March, aligning with the company's schedule of releasing two updates annually for the operating system.
