There have always been reports of audio playback issues when watching YouTube videos in Chrome on Windows 10. In some cases, users reported encountering audio output issues that prevented them from hearing videos at maximum volume from their PC speakers.
According to Google, YouTube receives hundreds of daily reports from users about playing videos with no sound on computers, with 95% of reports coming from Windows 10 users. Google believes there are three main reasons behind the audio issues: users accidentally muting YouTube, changes in the output device (which occurs when users have dual monitors with one audio connection), and Windows 10 drivers.
Both native and third-party drivers can cause audio output errors for YouTube videos. According to the search giant, computer screens with independent volume, USB audio cards, etc., contribute to various other audio issues.
In a proposal, Google has urged Microsoft and the YouTube team to collaborate in checking drivers and resolving audio issues with the YouTube website and Chromium browser. Learn more about Updating Drivers here.
Microsoft has accepted Google's request, stating they have initiated the development of a new feature enabling Chromium browser to address issues related to low browser volume or muted sound. It seems Microsoft is striving to enhance the integration between Chromium and the built-in Volume Mixer on Windows 10.
The company explains: 'This enables Chromium-based browsers to develop solutions for user issues when they mute or lower the volume from the system menu and forget those changes, or when other apps make these changes and the Chromium user interface does not reflect that'. Currently, it is unclear when these changes will be implemented for users.
