Microsoft Teams introduces new community feature
The 'core' focus of this feature is to provide a user-centric community space, such as event planning rooms, parent-teacher associations, sports teams, clubs, etc.
Additionally, the new feature also enables users:
- Easily send messages to everyone in the group.
- Organize events and add them to the community calendar for members to view.
- Share and store documents specifically for group activities.
- Filter content for quick access to images, videos, events, and links.
To start, users can create communities right on the main screen of the Teams app with suggested community types. Then customize branding elements like images, group introductions before inviting members via email, phone number, link, or QR code. Community owners also have the authority to adjust various moderation options.
With the introduction of new communities for Teams, Microsoft is striving to create a 'highlight' as well as differentiation for its collaboration platform, while also competing with other social media platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, Discord, WhatsApp, and Slack.
