Although Microsoft hasn't disclosed many details at present, Mytour's research suggests that this capability is designed for administrators to remove inappropriate or off-topic messages in Teams conversations. Microsoft states that this feature will initially be for users of Teams for Education, but the company plans to roll it out to all versions of Teams globally, including desktops, mobile devices, DoD, and GCC High.
Microsoft Teams Supports Admins in Deleting Group Chat Messages
Such a feature would be fantastic at a time when schools and workplaces are adapting to online learning and remote work. The ability to delete inappropriate messages in Teams will help keep conversations on track and play a role in making everyone feel comfortable working and learning.

Of course, some may see this as control, but Slack has a similar feature for IT admins. On Slack, a competitor to Microsoft Teams, channel owners and admins can delete member messages in public channels, private channels, and direct messages within groups. Microsoft may have drawn inspiration from this feature.
As Microsoft Teams becomes more popular, many administrators will appreciate such chat management and monitoring features. Since the start of the pandemic, the number of Teams users has surged. In the most recent report in July, Microsoft stated that Teams has reached 250 million monthly active users.
This marks a significant leap from the reported 145 million daily active users in April. The company also emphasizes that there are over 3,000 organizations with more than 10,000 users on this platform. The message deletion feature for inappropriate content in Teams is expected to launch by the end of September.
