In their support documentation, Microsoft states that the changes will take effect from July 1st onwards, giving users about a month to upgrade their devices to newer Android versions to continue receiving the latest Office app updates and functionality.
According to Microsoft: 'Users can install Office for Android on any tablet or mobile device running supported versions of Android and equipped with Intel x86 processors. Starting July 1st, 2019, Office app support will be limited to the four newest Android versions.'

Support for other operating systems
For iOS applications, considered alternatives to Android, your device needs to run iOS 11 or later as the office suite apps currently only support the two most recent iOS releases.
The Redmond giant remains mum on any support for Windows 10 Mobile. However, with the operating system set to be 'phased out' by December this year, there's a high likelihood Office will soon cease to function on Windows 10 Mobile. For now, you can still download Office for Windows 10 here.
