WhatsApp has recently updated its privacy policy, informing users that their data will be shared with Facebook and other companies. While individuals can opt out for now, this will become a mandatory requirement to accept after February 8th.
Subsequently, the service faced significant criticism for this move, particularly as the company completely contradicted their initial promises back in 2014 when they were acquired by Facebook. Prominent figures such as Elon Musk are now urging the public to switch to Signal, resulting in a surge of new registrations on the platform.
Currently, Microsoft's social media team has also taken a jab at WhatsApp's failure and suggested users switch to Skype instead.
In an official tweet from the Skype account, Microsoft boasts about keeping user data private and not sharing it with third parties:
Additionally, Microsoft's privacy policy statement outlines the types of data the company collects from users and how it is used. It's a lengthy page that most people will overlook, but you should skim through it if you're truly considering uninstalling WhatsApp and switching to Skype due to privacy concerns.

Despite all the fierce reactions taking place, it seems highly unlikely that WhatsApp will backtrack. The company may have anticipated this scenario, and perhaps the controversy will die down in the coming weeks.
