An intriguing job posting has been recently discovered on Microsoft's career portal. Microsoft is seeking a Software Engineering Manager for its Application Connectivity team to enhance existing features on Windows 10 and also prepare features for Windows 10X.
The post delves into a specific term called 'dial-tone', described as the new objective for Microsoft's notification system. In the job posting, Microsoft promises to make the Windows 10 notification system more reliable to deliver timely notifications from both first-party and third-party apps.
Alongside a new notification system, Microsoft is also researching an improved version of Windows Indexer, supporting Windows Search and File Explorer.
Users have reported that the Windows Indexer process can lead to high CPU usage on some computers, especially when search indexing is active. According to this recent leak, Microsoft has finally made changes to Windows Indexer, allowing users to 'quickly find their files and information'.
Support for Cloud Clipboard and app sharing across Windows devices is also being enhanced by Microsoft.
Microsoft highlights: 'COSINE is responsible for several critical components, enabling sharing and connectivity for all Windows apps, including clipboard and sharing; localization and indexing; and notifications. We are currently hiring a Development Director who will elevate the team to new heights'.
It's unclear when these changes will come to Windows 10, but Microsoft states they plan to develop these features 'as needed' to support upcoming major releases of the operating system.
The next major update is Windows 10 May 2020 Update, also known as version 20H1, expected to be released in May 2020. It's highly unlikely that the new indexing and notification systems will appear in this update. Since Microsoft is still seeking engineers to drive the project forward, we'll have to wait even longer. If you're not yet using Windows 10, you can check out how to install Win 10 here.
