Microsoft reveals that most requested features are now available on the PDF reader tool for Edge on Windows, Mac, and Linux. These include features such as table of contents support, page view, and basic form filling for reading and navigation. For annotations, users can now write in various ink colors and easily make notes on PDF files. Additionally, there are enterprise and education-focused features, such as Read Aloud for reading out loud lengthy PDFs.
The PDF reader tool on Edge will see various new enhancements.
Beside these, there are upcoming features in the pipeline. One notable addition is called View Recovery, designed to remember your last document position, allowing you to continue from where you left off in your previous reading. This can be especially helpful when reading large PDF files, such as a book. You will also be able to view MIP-protected files and authenticate electronic signatures.
That's all the development team is currently working on, but many more features are set to be introduced in the future. Microsoft plans to add PDF file previews to File Explorer and Outlook, and also includes additional support for text boxes to fill in forms. Users will be able to preview the beginning of protected files, verify ETS1 electronic signatures, and, of course, improvements in accessibility are in progress. However, Microsoft did not disclose when these features will be released.
