Microsoft updates fresh Skype icons on Android & iOS

Microsoft has been redesigning app icons for many of its proprietary software. In November last year, Microsoft introduced iconography - new pictograms and continuously updates icons for Office suite apps on both web and Windows computers, and now, Skype is the latest app to receive an icon refresh.

Now, Microsoft is updating icons for the Skype app on mobile platforms Android & iOS. Last week, the iOS version of Skype received a fresh design update - incorporating elements of the company's Fluent Design system - followed by the Android version.

An interesting fact is, while some regions only see the old icon on Google Play Store for Skype, if you proceed to download the app, you'll see the new icon on the home screen. It seems Microsoft needs to update separate Store listings in different regions.

In terms of aesthetics, the new Skype icon is livelier than before, creating a blurred shadow effect. Colors are reversed, the 'S ' is white with a navy background compared to the previous blue text and white background.
