Minecraft Earth is an AR mobile game, developed with the idea of bringing Minecraft's cooperative, creative gameplay to the real world using AR technology. The game was first announced in May 2019 and showcased at Apple's WWDC event that year. A public beta was opened in late 2019, but the game seemed to not attract as much attention from players as expected.
In a recent announcement, Mojang stated: 'Minecraft Earth was designed around free movement and cooperative gameplay - 2 things nearly impossible to achieve in the current global situation. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to reallocate our resources to other areas, provide value to the Minecraft community, and end support for Minecraft Earth in June 2021'.
Before Minecraft Earth shuts down, Mojang will release one final update, aimed at making the game as enjoyable as possible.
