Record-Breaking Revenue
In Vietnam, after its opening weekend, Minions: Gru's Rise has set a record as the highest-grossing animated film, raking in 39 billion VND in revenue and selling over 434 thousand tickets.
Not only that, this figure also helps the film achieve other remarkable milestones: entering the top 10 favorite foreign films. What's even more special, Minions: Gru's Rise is the only animated film in this list, standing alongside big-budget action and superhero blockbusters like Godzilla vs Kong, Captain Marvel, Fast and Furious 8, The Avengers.
Furthermore, the film also ranks in the top 3 opening week revenues solely among 2022 cinema releases, alongside Doctor Strange 2 and Close Encounters. In the North American market, the film has also raked in over $108.5 million in its first three days, surpassing the performance of its predecessor released 7 years ago.
Currently, Minions: Gru's Rise is also on track to earn $127.9 million by the end of the US Independence Day holiday— a figure that could surpass Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011 ($115.9 million) as the biggest 4th of July release ever in North America. According to Comscore, the film has also pushed domestic revenue past $985 million in June 2022, marking the highest-grossing month post-pandemic, a significant leap from the $409 million in the summer of 2021.

On the film review website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has received overwhelmingly positive ratings with 92% from audiences and 71% from critics. On IMDb, the film scores 7.3/10 and is the second highest-rated installment in the franchise, trailing only behind each Despicable Me.
The Telegraph of the UK rates Minions: Gru's Rise 4 out of 5 stars, commenting that the film is a perfect nostalgic tribute to Looney Tunes. 'Who would have thought? The origin story of supervillain Gru (and his yellow henchmen) is the most enjoyable part of the franchise to date'.
