Molly Gibson - A miraculous infant born from a cryogenically preserved embryo in 1992
Buzz
At the end of October, Molly Gibson entered the world weighing over 3kg, full of vitality. This marked an extraordinary event, as Molly is a baby conceived and born from an embryo cryopreserved since 1992.Molly's birth seems to have set a new world record - dubbed the “longest cryopreserved embryo to be born”, as the “Molly embryo” was frozen in October 1992, then “adopted” in February 2020; meaning this embryo is essentially almost 27 years old. Previously, the record belonged to Emma Gibson, also Molly's sister - an embryo that was born after about 24 years of “hibernation”.Tina successfully conceived Emma and Molly with the assistance of the National Embryo Donation Center, a non-profit organization in Knoxville that stores cryopreserved embryos unused by in vitro fertilization patients. Other families can also request these unused embryos for childbirth if desired.
The Gibson family shares that they aren't overly concerned about setting world records or anything similar, but still find it quite fascinating that both of their lovely daughters share this incredibly special commonality.Source: CNNReference image from Google
