The autoplay video disable feature is incorporated in version 63.0a1, as announced in Mozilla's roadmap earlier this year. This feature enables users to block all autoplaying videos on all websites they visit or choose to receive popup notifications for individual websites.
Mozilla enhances option to block autoplaying videos on Firefox
This new feature operates by displaying a popup window from the left side of the URL bar, similar to how browser notifications are shown.
Note that the popup window only appears if the website contains autoplaying audio elements immediately after loading. Additionally, the popup window won't appear if users configure websites with audio elements to play only when they click the play button.
Alongside the autoplay video blocking feature, there's also an accompanying option in the Firefox browser settings. By default, the option is set to Always Ask, and you can change it to Allow Autoplay or Block Autoplay if you don't want to see the popup window on the websites you visit.
Similar functionality has been integrated into the Chrome browser in March earlier this year. Additionally, Microsoft's Edge browser also introduced the autoplay video blocking feature for Windows Insider users last month. Firefox users interested in experiencing this feature early can download the latest Nightly release from the Mozilla homepage.
