Mozilla is striving to address the cluttered tab issue affecting all browsers, especially Chrome. This problem arises when users open too many tabs on their browser, leading to distorted tab bar sizes and sometimes causing browser crashes or freezes due to excessive tab processing.
Mozilla implements tab concealment to tidy up Firefox browser
In Chrome browser, if users open too many tabs, the width of the tabs may change and shrink.
Mozilla's Firefox was the first browser to address this issue. Last year, the company began implementing a minimum tab width and created a horizontal scroll area on its browser.
However, users are still not satisfied with this approach and are hoping that browser manufacturers will provide a better solution. Especially in situations where users need to hide tabs for a specific period, similar to how they used to do with the now-deleted Tab Groups feature in Firefox.
Mozilla announced they've created a new function 'tabs.hide()' for the WebExtension API in November last year.
This new API feature has been tested by the Firefox add-on development community. Recent discussions indicate its success. In a recent blog post, Mozilla announced that this new feature will officially be added to the WebExtension API on Firefox.
Starting from Firefox 62, add-on developers can create extensions based on this feature without needing to set the value of (extensions.webextensions.tabhide.enabled) to True in the about:config page for this API to function.
Users can already take advantage of this feature and install some extensions to temporarily hide tabs in Firefox.
The first extension mentioned here is Hide Tabs by Mytour. This extension works by hiding tabs under the dropdown menu arrow located on the right side of the Firefox window.

Alternatively, another extension is Panorama View, which replicates the old Tab Groups feature in Firefox, allowing users to group and hide tabs together.

Apart from Firefox, Opera is also rolling out new features to reduce tab clutter on the browser.
In its most recent release, Opera 53 has optimized the tabs displayed on the Tab bar when users open multiple tabs simultaneously, helping users easily find a specific tab among the many tabs they have opened. However, the tab clutter issue in Opera has not yet been fully resolved.
