In a blog post, Ryan Sipes, Thunderbird's community manager, mentioned that the company will explore and harness new technologies more quickly to rewrite parts of the free email application as well as work with Thunderbird on multiple processes.
Additionally, a series of updates planned for the next year will be carried out by Thunderbird's development team, focusing mainly on performance and user interface issues, improving notifications, strengthening Gmail support, ensuring features migrate smoothly to Thunderbird, and aiding users in easily encrypting communication. Privacy and security concerns will also receive greater emphasis.
In October last year, Magnus Melin, Thunderbird's Technical Director, outlined upcoming features and improvements slated for the near future. Alongside features and enhancements announced in Sipes' blog post, Melin addressed issues such as improving email filters, supporting popular add-ons, and enhancing the calendar.
Ultimately, the process of improving and deploying new features and changes takes time, and some changes mentioned in the announcement may not be available in the next Thunderbird release. Nevertheless, these are promising signs for Thunderbird users in the future.
