About 3 weeks after releasing Firefox 60.0.1, Mozilla introduces Firefox 60.0.2, which includes an update to the NSS (Network Security Services) component to version 3.36.4, surpassing the previous release version 3.36.1. NSS is a cross-platform development library for server and client applications supporting application security.
Mozilla rolls out Firefox 60.0.2 for Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android.
NSS 3.36.4 includes fixes related to authentication codes like WebAuthn or PK11 on Apple's macOS platform and fixes SSL_RX_MALFORMED_SERVER_HELLO error that may occur on some systems when attempting to connect to servers recently upgraded to Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.3.
The most significant change in Firefox 60.0.2 involves patching a critical security vulnerability reported earlier by Ivan Fratric of Google Project Zero. The buffer overflow flaw affecting the Skia library could lead to exploits. The issue arises when Rasterize paths include malicious SVG files and anti-aliasing is disabled.
Security vulnerability patching, font improvements on macOS
In addition to upgrading the NSS (Network Security Services) component and patching critical security vulnerabilities, Firefox 60.0.2 release also enhances font rendering on Mac OS X 10.11 and older systems when using third-party font managers and adds missing nodes in the Inspector tool for developers.
Mozilla has also patched critical security vulnerabilities found in the Firefox ESR 52.8.1 release. Users are advised to update to Firefox 60.0.2 as soon as possible. To download and install Firefox 60.0.2, visit here.
