Both security vulnerabilities have been patched and could lead to use-after-free errors, allowing hackers to exploit after user interaction with malicious software. These are types of Memory Corruption vulnerabilities that attackers could utilize for arbitrary code execution. Both CVE-2020-6819 and CVE-2020-6820 are being exploited unchecked, hence users should promptly apply the patches to ensure their systems remain uncompromised.
Francisco Alonso, one of the individuals who reported exploits for Mozilla, congratulated the company for swiftly releasing fixes despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, forcing employees worldwide to work from home. Alonso also confirmed that there is still much work to be done to address these exploits as they affect other web browsers. He added that more details will be disclosed soon.
