Unfortunately, they are not the first to engage in such behavior. Earlier on January 31st, three French tourists were arrested and faced suspension for their nude selfie photoshoot at the famous heritage site in Cambodia.
Hence, the best practice is to AVOID taking selfies (especially nude ones) in sacred places like these.
2. Avoid selfies because it can be... dangerous
In 2013, a couple visiting a nature reserve in South Africa was brutally attacked while taking photos with wild white rhinos. They survived, but others have not been so fortunate. Specifically, last year, a mountain climber took a selfie with a black bear and was not only attacked but also killed. The danger is not limited to wild animals.
Not to mention, also last year, a 23-year-old student in Poland lost her life after falling from a 4.5m high bridge in Spain while absorbed in taking a selfie.
That is the consequence of excessive selfie indulgence.
In 2012, a daring passenger at Miami International Airport attempted to transport 163 tropical fish and 22 eels to Maracaibo, Venezuela. The last-minute traveler had to surrender some of the fish to the US Fisheries and Wildlife Service.
Similarly, a man in Florida, USA, tried smuggling 30 snakes and various bird species to Atlanta but was apprehended by security. Not to mention, in 2011, a man at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok was intercepted trying to 'smuggle' an entire zoo in his checked luggage: two sun bears, a black Asian bear, and two monkeys... Truly audacious actions.
