#MytourLookBack: This year, I've committed to running more diligently.
As 2021 comes to an end, it's time for reflection on accomplishments amidst the turmoil of the Covid-19 pandemic. Living in Hanoi, I've endured lockdown days, prompting a heightened sense of responsibility for my health. Despite the ongoing pandemic, prioritizing self-care and immunity has been my foremost concern.Let me share with you that I'm quite sedentary, partly due to the nature of my work, which involves long hours sitting in front of a computer. Evenings are often spent at the office until 7-8 pm, followed by a desire to rest or continue working on the computer, sometimes until 2-3 am. While I occasionally play football, I often feel unsafe due to the roughness of the matches. Thus, I explored alternative exercises conducive to health. Witnessing acquaintances engage in running inspired me to start. Initially, I assumed that putting on shoes and running would suffice, but the more I ran, the more I learned valuable insights and useful tips, realizing that running goes beyond simply putting on shoes and hitting the pavement. During the social distancing period, I ran around my neighborhood, unaware of proper techniques, simply running for the sake of it. The goal was to complete the three rings on my Apple Watch. On my first run after Hanoi lifted Directive 16, I vividly recall waking up exceptionally early around 5:00 am, eager to hit the pavement. Despite planning a 5km route on Google Maps, my lack of basic knowledge led to cramps and muscle spasms after just 1km. I had to walk and gingerly resume running, contemplating giving up. However, with no way back home except on foot, I persevered and made it back home with a smile. 😁The first day of running was tough and challenging for me due to an injury right from the first kilometer.Despite the initial struggles, I managed to push through and complete an 8km run. This session provided me with even more motivation. After nearly 8km on the first day, as many of you know, my legs were barely functioning. However, surprisingly, after that first day, I felt quite suited to this sport. So, I turned to Facebook, joined running forums, and delved into everyone's advice on how to run correctly and suitably. I began taking running more seriously, focusing on warming up, choosing the right routes, and running in a way to avoid unnecessary injuries. I invested in proper shoes, clothing, socks, and ankle support to adhere to the 'running standards' and reduce the risk of injury. I followed a gradual approach: running 3-4km for the first few days, then increasing to 4-5km, and gradually further depending on my health and available time. Before running, I warmed up for 10-15 minutes. During the run, instead of pushing too hard, I adopted a strategy of running 200m, then walking 30m. Over time, I improved and could run longer distances. After gathering information from various online groups, I began investing in proper running gear, adhering to the 'running standards' to minimize the risk of injury.
In the first few days, attempting to add 1-2km would result in muscle soreness. I'd take a brief rest to regain strength before heading back home, as the distance was still quite far. 😁Honestly, for me, running is purely about self-improvement, building endurance and stamina. I don't focus too much on achievements. Hence, my pace always stays between 7-8 regardless of the distance. I love the feeling of waking up early, running while admiring the sunrise, and enjoying the fresh air. Coming back, taking a shower, having breakfast, and then going to work is incredibly satisfying. Since I started running, I always feel refreshed and alert. No more sluggishness as before.Speaking of running apps and tracking devices, I use the Nike App on my Apple Watch Series 3 Nike edition. It was quite fortunate that a colleague introduced me to the Uprace app, which allows me to support the Operation Smile Vietnam fund while running. Mytour also had a team for this event, so I joined. Thanks to this event, I've been running more. Some days, I wake up at 6 am to run, and if I'm too tired in the evening, I try to finish work early to go for a run. Sometimes, I feel addicted to running, and my friends are surprised by this positive change in me.I've managed to run longer distances, but I still need to improve my running speed.During the Operation Smile Vietnam program, I ran for 12 days, covering over 104 kilometers in reality, although Uprace recorded 153 kilometers. I also contributed 153 thousand to the fund. While it may not be a significant amount, it brings me joy to enhance my fitness and contribute to society. However, upon joining a new team, I noticed many professional runners, and I struggle to keep up.Uprace has motivated me to run harder. Although my achievements may pale in comparison to others', it signifies a personal journey of perseverance for me.Received certification for participating in the Operation Smile program by Uprace:DIndoor running performance wasn't great, but hey, at least I got moving! :DBesides running, I've also picked up cycling this year, which has been quite intriguingBack in October, I signed up for the Longbien Marathon 2021 scheduled for mid-December, but unfortunately, it got postponed due to the pandemic. Well, I'll just have to wait and hope the pandemic ends soon so I can participate in the eventThe postponement of the Longbien Marathon 2021 due to the pandemic is quite disappointing. Hopefully, the pandemic ends soon so I can join more running events
