Today marks a truly special day for me. It's because I had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful activity with my schoolmates - an extracurricular trip to a foster care center for orphans in the province. It was here that I had an encounter with little ones facing unique circumstances, orphaned from a young age.
The school had coordinated with the local orphanage for our students to experience a day at this place. Prior to the visit, the school had prepared many small gifts for the children. Our classmates were no exception. We eagerly assisted the teachers, contributing personal items, clothing, and study materials such as books, pens, and notebooks to give to the children. The mood while preparing these items was a mix of excitement and joy for being able to make a small difference for these kids.
The vehicle came to a halt at the orphanage center. We disembarked, carrying small gifts and surprises for the children. Stepping into the center's compound, we couldn't help but be amazed by its grandeur and cleanliness. The encounter with the meticulous preparations immediately unfolded. A small stage adorned with flowers, balloons, and vibrant decorations was set up. A well-prepared extracurricular program, including gift-giving to the center's children, was also in place. At 9 in the morning, we completed the final preparations to kick off the program. The children at the center donned their best outfits, turning the occasion into a festive party. Their excitement and joy were evident as they interacted with older students, anticipating the upcoming program. The school principal officially opened the event, and the program host guided us through cultural performances at the beginning.
Next, a representative from the center came forward to receive gifts for the children. The subsequent part involved presenting gifts to those facing difficulties but excelling in their studies. Though small, items like books, pens, and rulers brought immense joy to the children. Each child at the center also received a new backpack from the school, creating immense fondness. Every face lit up with joy, and the donated items, along with the love and sharing among individuals, were more apparent than ever. The children at the center contributed unique and remarkable cultural performances. Finally, the center's representative shared their gratitude and recounted the journey of Đức, a child with special circumstances. Abandoned by parents from birth, left at a hospital with no one to care for him, Đức's resilience was extraordinary.
Frequent battles with rare illnesses, undergoing three surgeries before turning 2, Đức seemed to have only a faint thread of life. Yet, thanks to the kindness of benevolent hearts, he recovered and is thriving. Today, Đức is grown up, working for a foreign company in child protection. He returns to the center, contributing significantly to its development. He expressed a desire to live with compassion, embodying the very name the center gave him. His touching story left us all deeply moved, admiring his spirit of overcoming adversity.
Time flew by swiftly. In no time, it was time for us to leave the center. The children clung to us, still cherishing the memories with older student siblings. Tears were shed as we listened to their stories, and warm hugs were exchanged. Although lacking in familial love, the children found solace here. Hopefully, in the future, they will become outstanding individuals, returning to the place that nurtured and sheltered them in their early years, contributing a small part to help unfortunate lives. It truly was a meaningful journey that I may never forget in my lifetime.
