My father's childhood was very difficult. In his spare time, he would often tell me about those tough days of his childhood. Those stories always deeply moved me. Through them, my father imparted many valuable lessons to us. But the story of my father's shoes left a profound impression on me.
Back when he was in school, my father faced more hardships than his friends. Knowing our family was poor, he never tried to keep up with them. He always dedicated himself to his studies. At home, he would help our grandparents with household chores. One day, my grandmother took my father to the market. Passing by a shoe store, she wanted to buy him a new pair of shoes. His old ones were worn out. Despite really wanting a new pair, my father thought about how my grandparents would have to save more, endure more hardships. He couldn't bear it. He said, 'I don't like those shoes, Grandma. Mine may look old, but they're still good.' He held my grandmother's hand and walked past the shoe store.
The next day, my father went to our neighbor's house and said to them, 'Hey, whenever you have any work, remember to ask me.' He shared with them his wish for a new pair of shoes to replace his worn-out ones. The neighbor was surprised when my father asked them not to tell his parents. 'Please keep it a secret,' he said.
