Prompt: Narrate the tale of my grandfather
Guidelines for recounting the story of my grandfather
Written Work:
My grandfather adores fishing. I love tagging along with him to the fishing pond.
The sky that day was vast and blue. Occasionally, fluffy white clouds drifted lazily across the deep blue sky. On the branches of trees, sparrows chirped, hopping from branch to branch. The leaves and the wind played together, dancing joyfully. Mischievous sunbeams danced through the green foliage. Nature orchestrated a cheerful symphony.
Grandpa and I found a shelter. I watched him prepare. He laid down an old newspaper on the floor, holding a fishing rod made of bamboo, crafted by himself. His face was focused on the bobber, waiting for a fish to bite. His face, rosy and gentle, with white hair and beard, made him look like a fairy tale character my mother often narrated every night.
I move closer to my grandfather, observing him closely. His eyes shine brightly and are remarkably beautiful. Looking at him, no one would guess he's over 70. Despite his age, my grandfather remains robust and agile. As I watch him, I ask, 'When will the fish bite, Grandpa?' He gently whispers to me, 'You must learn patience, my child. Fishing teaches us the virtue of patience, cultivates perseverance, and encourages thoughtful consideration. Do you understand?' I nod. He strokes my head, smiling, 'As you grow older, you'll grasp what I mean.' He explains that when fishing, one must learn to wait. The longer one waits patiently, the greater the joy when the fish finally bites. That's the reward for patience. If one is too hasty, they'll abandon the task, showing a lack of patience. As he imparts his wisdom, the bobber moves gently. Quickly, he reels in a large carp. He swiftly removes the fish, placing it in the bucket. He says he'll take this fish home for Grandma to cook sour soup for us. He baits another hook and casts the line back into the water. But the subsequent fish, he releases back into the water. He says he goes fishing for the pleasure of it.'
Every time I go fishing with my grandfather, I learn new lessons. Today's lesson is about the virtue of patience. He says he'll teach me how to catch fish next time. Today's outing with my grandfather has been truly delightful.
