Netflix assures its new policy won't impact their revenue in any way. This is because inactive accounts represent a very small portion of their total subscriptions. Furthermore, less than half a percent of their total accounts are inactive at this time. At the end of the first quarter of 2020, the company reported a total of 182.9 million accounts worldwide, marking a 22% YoY growth.
In their announcement of the new policy, Netflix states: 'We've always believed that signing up and canceling is very easy. So, as always, anyone who cancels their account and then re-subscribes within 10 months will retain their favorites, profiles, viewing preferences, and account information. Meanwhile, we hope this new approach will help people save some of the hard-earned money they've worked for.'
