Currently, users often struggle with inserting multimedia content on social media platforms and pasting text into Windows 10 applications without formatting. With the Windows 10 Sun Valley update, Microsoft plans to enhance the Windows 10 Clipboard, one of the most crucial features of the operating system.
Next update will introduce a new Clipboard experience with Clipboard history menu support, allowing you to insert emojis, GIFs, and content from the clipboard with or without formatting.
The new Clipboard manager will also use the Fluent Design language and come with a fresh interface seen on Windows 10X.
The new Clipboard experience is expected to make it easier for users to add content to messages or emails in almost all applications such as Outlook, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and more.
Inside any text field of an application, press the Windows + V key combination until you see the Clipboard menu. Then, you can click on any emoji and GIF icon to add them to your text. Alternatively, you can use the search bar to browse through the list and find media content as desired.
A brand new copy and paste experience
For years, pasting text in emails, documents, and applications without the original formatting (font, color, size...) has been a test of patience. In applications like Microsoft Office, you can easily paste text with or without formatting.
In all other apps, Windows 10 relies on support from app developers. Fortunately, Microsoft has listened to user feedback, and the new integrated Clipboard manager will bring the long-awaited option to 'paste as plain text.'
As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows 10 Clipboard can now retain formatting (recognizing links, fonts, different languages, numbers, tables, and addresses) when you paste text from a website like Wikipedia.
In the upcoming Windows 10 Sun Valley update, you can access the Clipboard menu by pressing Win + V , and a new option called Paste as text will appear when you try to paste copied content with any formatting.
This new option is extremely convenient when you want to reformat copied text and remove unwanted links or bold/italicized text.
Microsoft is testing even more improvements for the Clipboard manager in Insider builds, and these changes will begin rolling out later this year.
