In recent years, the iPad Air series has been closing the feature gap with iPad Pro models, featuring new edge-to-edge design and a powerful M2 chip. This has led customers to be puzzled about choosing between iPad Pro or iPad Air.
Now, Apple aims to create a wider gap between iPad Pro OLED and iPad Air with a new design, internal upgrades, and superior accessories. A recent report suggests that iPad Pro OLED will debut with these upgraded features in March next year.
iPad Pro OLED to feature new design and M3 chipIn his latest Power On newsletter, journalist Mark Gurman declares that Apple is making efforts to create broader differentiations between the iPad Pro and iPad Air series. Gurman argues that the current iPad Air model is slightly smaller with a design similar to the iPad Pro. Additionally, the smaller 11-inch iPad Pro features an LCD display, similar to Air models. One of the most significant distinguishing factors is the ProMotion 120Hz display. However, this is about to change with the introduction of the OLED iPad Pro.
Gurman verifies previous reports stating that iPad Pro will feature a completely new design with OLED display and upgraded M3 chip. These three aspects will differentiate iPad Pro OLED from iPad Air. There is also information indicating that Apple will end the screen differentiation between the two models in the iPad Pro lineup as they both feature new displays. This will allow the company to position both iPad Pro models as premium variants while the rest of the iPad lineup continues to use LCD.
Gurman also reveals that Apple is researching a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a more sturdy aluminum frame. The new Magic keyboard will further elevate the iPad Pro OLED into a higher-end device compared to the iPad Air.
Although the aforementioned changes are welcomed, the prices of OLED iPad Pro models may increase significantly. There have been previous reports suggesting that OLED iPad Pro could have a price tag of up to $1,800, higher than even the basic 14-inch model.
