Although Windows 10 is more popular than ever, there's no secret that this operating system is undergoing design improvements. We know that Microsoft is redesigning the iconic Start menu in Windows 10 with the 20H2 version, and currently, the company has begun developing a new interface with rounded corners for this operating system.
In recent weeks, Microsoft has released updates for Windows 10 Photos, Windows Calendar, Windows Maps, Movies & TV, Sticky Notes, and even Calculator with new rounded corners.
Notice Minor Interface Changes in These Applications When Opening Context Menu
The old interface of these applications featured sharp corners. These new changes contrast with macOS Big Sur, which also uses rounded corners in its design language, but Microsoft's implementation will be more refined thanks to Fluent Design.
This design update comes a year after Microsoft promised rounded corners for default controls in XAML apps. The main purpose here is to make common controls more consistent and accessible across all Windows 10 applications.
Microsoft is also reportedly exploring design improvements for Start Menu and Action Center on desktop computers. The new preview release of Windows 10 includes references to WinUI for Start Menu and Action Center.
Understanding WinUI: Microsoft's Latest Interface Platform
WinUI also incorporates Fluent Design and includes rounded corners to add a touch of sophistication to Windows. However, this new rounded interface still needs extensive research and testing during development, so it's unknown whether it will be implemented in core areas of Windows 10 like the Start Menu.
