Following the success of Windows 7, Microsoft released Windows 8 with hopes that it would continue the trend of innovation with its modern features. However, up to this point, Windows 8, despite its highly customizable interface compared to Windows 7, requires users to operate in two completely separate modes, reminiscent of Windows Phone, which can be confusing for users.
Understanding consumer psychology, Microsoft has effectively addressed the shortcomings of Windows 8 by releasing the Windows 8.1 operating system with its fantastic features, highly acclaimed by many.
Exciting New Features of Windows 8.1
While Windows 8.1 still operates in Desktop and Modern modes, these modes can now run within a single window, making it more convenient for those who need to use both modes simultaneously. Additionally, Windows 8.1 introduces several enhancements such as:
Introduction of Power and Search Buttons on the Start Screen
On the Start screen, a power button and search button have been added at the top right, making it quicker to search for applications. Furthermore, we can now shut down or restart the computer in any mode, if needed.
All open programs are displayed on the Taskbar
Previously, programs activated from the Start screen would run independently and not be shown on the Taskbar, requiring users to switch between Desktop and Modern modes when needing to use programs from both, which was time-consuming and complex. Now, all programs are pinned to the Taskbar, making it faster and simpler to switch between modes.
Accessing the taskbar from anywhere
Whether on Desktop, Start, or Apps, to access the taskbar, simply hover your mouse down to the bottom right corner of the screen or use the “Windows + C” key combination.
Boot directly to Desktop
If you find yourself using the Desktop more often for work, you can opt to boot directly to the Desktop without going through the Start screen.
Embrace Mouse Navigation
Mouse-centric operation offers a hands-off and leisurely experience. Windows 8.1 applications come equipped with taskbars for seamless mouse operations like closing, minimizing, and additional functionalities.
In addition, the screen supports running 2 programs simultaneously in a single window (Split-screen mode).
Direct Right-Click Functionality on Tiles
By right-clicking directly on the programs we want to interact with, we can select functions without having to move the mouse to the bottom of the screen as in Windows 8.
Using Windows 8.1 feels intuitive for users anywhere, with any background. It's easy to operate and customize, eliminating confusion even with simple tasks like closing programs, a marked improvement over Windows 8.
