The feature is currently referred to as Desktop Sharing Hub, bringing new ways to share web pages. Unlike Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome has always lacked a suitable sharing menu, leaving many users disappointed. On Windows 10, users can utilize the built-in sharing UI of the operating system to share Edge content across multiple devices and applications.
Chrome for Windows Introduces Its Own Sharing Hub Center
Google Chrome for Windows 10 is currently introducing a new sharing center that will appear in the browser's address bar when users click on the plus icon (+). Similar to nearly every other ongoing feature, the new sharing center is hidden behind a flag and can be activated with the following steps:
- Install Chrome Canary.
- Access Chrome://flags.
- Enter Desktop Sharing Hub.
- Select and enable Desktop Sharing Hub in Omnibox.
- Restart the web browser.
To update to this latest feature, you should download the newest version of Google Chrome for Windows on Mytour here:
After the flag has been enabled and you have restarted the Google Chrome browser, open any web page and click on the address bar. As soon as you touch the address bar, you will be greeted with a new plus icon, displaying all sharing options in a column.
As shown in the screenshot above, you can select Copy link to copy the URL and share it via email, as well as other applications. This is similar to what you typically do when using the sharing feature of Edge or Chrome on mobile devices. There are 3 interesting options for you to try:
- QR Code: Essentially creates a QR code of the current tab for you to quickly share the URL of the current web page with your phone or tablet.
- Save page as: When using the new Save page as option, you can download the entire web page for offline viewing. This feature will save basic HTML assets to render the page without needing to connect to the page's server. To save the web page, you need to select a folder and click on the Webpage, HTMP only or Webpage, Complete option. The Save page as option also saves images and additional resource files.
- Cast: Allows you to send the current tab or entire Chrome window to a connected device.
In addition to the new sharing center, Google is also planning to bring the Windows 10 sharing UI into Chrome.
- Learn more: Chrome allows you to create links to specific text on a web page and adds new PDF features
