One of the challenges faced by individuals with urinary tract issues is urinary retention. Simply put, when the urge to urinate arises but one is unable to do so, it can be incredibly frustrating. For those who experience this continuously for days on end, the frustration is even greater. To address urinary retention, UroDev Medical in the US has developed a type of urinary catheter with remote control capabilities, making hygiene much more convenient.
The noteworthy aspect of this product, named IntelliFlow Catheter Management System (ICMS), is that it was conceived by a former serviceman who became partially paralyzed in the lower body during combat. He thought of this solution when he encountered numerous difficulties using traditional urinary catheters. According to his calculations, individuals with urinary retention may need up to 200 catheters per month, which represents a significant waste of both materials and money, not to mention the high risk of infection during catheter replacement.

The product is currently being used by 40 patients, with another 40 individuals registered for trials. If everything goes smoothly, they will apply for FDA approval by mid-year, and for the European market, they will seek CE Mark approval next year.
